That’s what cinema is to me; escapism, the firing of the imagination. A place of wonder and delight! And that’s why ‘movie night’ is special for me.
Whether it’s curled up on the sofa watching a thriller in the midst of a storm (making sure the doors are locked!) or going out with friends on a Summer’s evening to see the latest action spectacular… films are great!
This was my most technical shoot yet, and my most satisfying. Erm sure, I may have butchered a few things in the editing suite… but most importantly it gave me the taste for more! To keep experimenting! To make this shoot happen, I used the following:
- Camera and lens (see details below)
- Canon Speedlite 430EX II
- MagiGlow lightbox (pictured)
- Philips Hue bulb set to magenta
- Manfrotto Trifill Diffuser 60cm 1 stop
- Manfrotto Befree tripod
Once I’d captured enough images, I loaded up Lightroom and began… I used a couple of exposures and merged them using the HDR photo merge option as a starting point to bring back some detail in the background and to increase the exposure on Buzz Lightyear.
Buzz Lightyear then had his exposure further increased with the use of an adjustment brush, then I set a graduated filter on the lightbox and dehazed it a bit to bring back a bit of contrast on the letters.
There was also a trailing wire in the way, powering the lightbox so I removed it using the spot removal tool. I probably should have fired up Photoshop to deal with it properly. You live and learn!
This is the most image manipulation I’ve ever done, so I’ve quite possibly used the tools incorrectly. I’m up for any tips on how to improve!
